Zeus is the King of the Gods and the god of thunder, lighting, and the sky. He is husband to Hera, the son of Cronus, and grandson to Gaia.

Physical Appearance[]

Zeus has an appearance of a normal elderly man. He is of a shorter height with a thin build, partially bald head with white hair and a beard. He is often seen wearing a janitor's uniform of a light blue work shirt, dark blue pants and brown shoes.

During his youth, his hair was a light blond color and he had a muscular build. Even in his giant form, he was noticeably shorter than many of the other deities and titans.

Personality[]

Despite being king of the Gods, Zeus is actually somewhat laid back and is not often involved in many of the teen's missions unless necessary. When involved, he does what he can to help the team. Prior to the teens learning of his identity, he tended to help out in secret until the time came for them to learn who he really was.

Zeus cares very much for those around him but harbors a deep resentment of Cronus, both for wanting to rule the world and for being a bad father.

In the Series[]

The Chosen Ones are unable to meet him because the time wasn't right or rather, do not recognize that he is Mr. Suez ('Zeus' spelled backwards), the school's janitor. He is depicted as a grumpy-looking old man with a beard and English accent, who wouldn't say a word until episode They Might be G.I.Ants. He is rather disorganized and has a storage locker full of miscellaneous items, most of which are made of gold.

His absentmindedness and appearance as an elderly man resulted from using up his powers to send the Chosen Ones back to the future after their role in thwarting Cronus' time altered victory at the Titanomachy. The Chosen Ones, after seeing Zeus during The Titan War, finally recognize Mr. Suez as Zeus after they return to the present and Zeus no longer keeps quiet about his identity to them.

He plays a more active role in Season Two and is shown to be much more easy-going and friendly. While his involvement is still limited in the series, he does play key parts in some episodes, such as in Mother Knows Best when Gaia was seeking gratitude for saving him from Cronus when he was a baby and giving her the overdue gratitude caused her to stop her anger induced earthquakes.

Powers and Abilities[]

As the King of the Gods, Zeus is arguably the most powerful. However, the Techno-Greeks claimed that even Zeus did not have the power to produce level 12 earthquakes like Gaia; although it is not clear if this is due to have a weaker power level or because his powers are not as in tune with nature as hers are.

  • Immortality: As a god, Zeus is immortal and cannot die by conventional means. But his existence, like the other immortals, can be at risk if the Tree of Immortality is threatened.
  • Electrokinesis: Zeus could wield lightning with devastating power. He is shown to have excellent aim when using the bolts. At several different points, such as in Time After Time, he used physical bolts where in Recipe for Disaster he could conjure the bolts.
  • Limited Chlorokinesis: Zeus could conjure flowers and such to an unknown degree.
  • Time Travel: Zeus displayed the ability to send the Heroes forward 4000 years in time. However, this was an extremely power draining feat.

Weaknesses[]

  • Overextension: Similar to Cronus, great expenditure of his power may weaken Zeus - for example, when the Chosen Ones traveled back in time to the Titanomachy, sending them to the future drained his powers somewhat. Such a power draining feat caused him to rapidly age and short-term memory problems.

Relationships[]

  • Hera: Zeus' wife. Due to being married for so long, the two are depicted as the stereotypical "old married couple" wherein Zeus does things that Hera constantly nags at him about. Regardless, they have a close and loving relationship.
  • Cronus: Throughout the series, the two are shown to be bitter rivals not willing to admit defeat to the other. Like his brothers, Zeus constantly points out how Cronus was a terrible and selfish father.

Mythology[]

In Greek Mythology, Zeus was the king of Olympus, ruler of Mount Olympus, and God of the Sky and Lightning. His symbols were the Thunderbolt, Eagle, Bull, Serpent, and Oak Tree. Zeus was the child of the Titans' Cronos and Rhea, and the youngest, but strongest to all his siblings. It was Zeus who led his brothers and sisters into battle against the Titans, claiming the throne of his father and banishing the Titans to Tartarus. He then married his sister Hera, Goddess of women and marriage.

Trivia[]

  • Not mentioned in the series, Zeus is the youngest of Cronus' six children; making him the younger brother of Hades and Poseidon.
  • Hera's golden apples were a gift from Zeus and a symbol of their marriage.
