Theresa ("The Fighter") is the sixteen-year-old descendant of King Theseus.

She is portrayed as second-in-command to Jay and assumes leadership duties when needed.

Her mentor is Persephone.

Physical Appearance[]

Theresa is a teenage girl who has a slender build. She has long, wavy orange hair with yellow streaks. The hair strands on the top of her head are on both sides respectively at times (left side in promotional art) and her eyes are green. She usually wears a scarlet red tank top, blue jeans tied with a brown belt and flat white shoes.

Personality[]

Theresa is generally rather peppy and cheerful. She cares greatly about her friends and allies and often does what she can to help them in nearly any situation. When first brought into the world of being a hero, Theresa was somewhat excited and relieved as it gave her a chance to escape being a "bored rich girl". However, as their battles against Cronus continued and took time away from their personal lives, Theresa began to grow resentful of this life as she felt it was robbing the seven teens of a chance at a normal life. As she appeared to be the only one of the teen's to feel this way, she was not able to properly release her anger and began blaming all of the deities for circumstances.

During certain points, Theresa acts somewhat motherly as she usually takes it upon herself to scold or teach a lesson when one of the other teens picks on another.

History[]

Theresa's dad owns cattle ranches across Canada and is stated to be a very successful entrepreneur which causes him to be preoccupied with his work leading to a lack of attention towards Theresa. Theresa's family is very wealthy, therefore she is used to the finer things in life, much like her mentor Persephone. She was test-driving her new sports car which was a birthday present from her father when the envoys from Cronus and Olympia arrived and was noticeably less than enthusiastic about the Olympia dorms. Theresa earned a black belt in taekwondo at 12 years old, she has excellent fighting skills and is usually armed with nunchucks. She has a natural sense of direction, as well as a sixth sense, enabling her to sometimes foresee the outcome of events.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Theresa has natural sense of direction as well as a sixth sense, akin to some form clairvoyance or psychometry. Theresa also has a spiritual connection that allows her to tap into the unseen forces of 'magic' in the world.

  • Telepathy: Theresa can read other's minds, but showed some difficulty in reading a god's thoughts.[1]
    • Mind Control: Theresa showed the ability to control the minds of others through her telepathy.[2]
    • Memory Erasure: Theresa can use her powers to wipe other's memories. She was shown erasing Cassidy's memory after she witnessed the Heroes fighting Orion.[3]
  • Telekinesis: Theresa possesses telekinetic abilities, being able to move objects or living beings with her mind. While she can usually move smaller or lighter things with ease, she struggles with larger and/or heavier things.
  • Psychic Connection: Theresa has a heart connection to her mentor, Persephone.
  • Aura Projection: Reaching her breaking point from becoming disillusioned by the constant fighting with Cronus, Theresa had begun subconsciously tapping into her "primal force" and manifested a purple phantom. This phantom was her spirit or aura, a personal energy field. Everyone has an aura, it is part of them. Hers was an avatar of her powers, capable of moving individually and independently from her following her subconscious desires.
  • Power Absorption: As seen where due to Theresa being fed up with the gods, the specter had begun stealing their powers and transforming them into mortals. Once Theresa became aware of her true powers and embracing them, she could even access the stolen abilities of the gods and use them as if they were her own. This is seen where she accessed the powers of Cronus, Hephaestus, Poseidon, Zeus, and Hermes, which then gave her the power to manipulate the ocean and water, create portals, manipulate time, conjure and control fire, conjure godly weapons, manipulate the weather, conjure lightning bolts, as well as imbuing a normal crab with immense power and control it to fight for her. Additionally, Theresa had also stolen the powers of Ares, Athena, Hera, and Persephone but was never seen using them.
    • Teleportation: Theresa's phantom could transport others, as it did to the gods after stealing their powers.

Abilities[]

  • Skilled Fighter: Theresa got her taekwondo belt at age 12 and has excellent fighting skills. In addition to skillfully wielding the nunchaku, she seems to demonstrate good leadership.
  • Physically Fit: Theresa has good agility and endurance. Thanks to her martial arts training, she is often able to bounce back onto her feet with relative ease.
  • Musician: Although embarrassed by this talent, Theresa is shown to be very good at playing the lyre.[4]

Weaknesses[]

  • Advanced Technology: Everything has an energy signature, including Theresa's phantom, and Odie can scan that with the PMR. But to physically capture it, they'd need to disrupt the phantom's vibrational frequency.
    • Electro Muscular Disruptor: According to Odie, everything that exists creates energy and an EMD should be able to cycle through the electromagnetic spectrum and sense patterns, and if they redirect the energy they could theoretically blast Theresa's phantom to bits. Although the feedback loops wouldn't work on Theresa's force field, it was able to disrupt the energy form she projected. But when used against her phantom, it merely split into several forms representing the powers she'd stolen.
  • Danger Sensitivity: Theresa's sense of danger is quite sensitive and may not work in highly dangerous situations. For example, in New Olympia's underground tunnel system her sense of danger was too sensitive to work and, unable to sense anything specific, all she sensed was vague threat surrounding her.[5]
  • Mortality: As Hera noted, no matter how powerful she is, Theresa's not immortal. Even with all the powers that Theresa stolen from the gods, she still had the same weaknesses as any other normal human.

Season One[]

She was introduced with Odie as the sixth and fifth teens discovered respectively. Theresa is a 16 year old and her father, who owns cattle ranches across Canada, is very preoccupied with his work and his lack of attention to anything else annoys her. She is very wealthy and is used to the finer things in life, much like her mentor Persephone, as she was test-driving her new sports car, which was a birthday present from her father when the envoys from Cronus and The Gods arrived and was noticeably less than enthusiastic about the Olympia dorms.

Season Two[]

In the Season Finale, Theresa is pushed too far by The Gods, her psychic abilities transcend to a new level of power and take a mental toll on her, causing her powers to go out of control in the form of a phantom, which goes on to drain the powers of Ares, Athena, Cronus, Hephaestus, Hera, Persephone, Hercules, Hermes, Zeus and Poseidon. Theresa's added frustration and selfishness get the better of her, creating a creature called The Phantom from her very subconscious and deluding her into thinking that the Gods are manipulating them like puppets. Manipulated her to go after Zeus to free herself from the Gods at the cost of harming her friends.

She starts draining the powers of the gods - at first unintentionally - thinking it will free her and the others from the Prophecy, and allow her and Jay to be together. She even managed to drain the powers of Cronus, which helped The Chosen Ones to defeat him, fulfilling the Oracle's prophecy. After draining Zeus, she declares that she and Jay are free now.

Jay is horrified by the notion that killing Theresa may be the only option, as suggested by Hera. Jay tells her that he can't kill her and tries to convince her to give up the gods' powers before they destroy her, but his efforts are in vain. The Phantom part of her attacks Jay, causing her to realize that she has gone too far. Before her power overwhelms her, she apparently dies. Jay revives her with a kiss, Theresa turns back to normal and the gods regain their powers.

Relationships[]

  • Jay: Theresa has strong feelings for Jay. There are many hints throughout the series indicating that the creators are leaning on Theresa and Jay as a couple, especially given that they are frequently seen together. She is deeply concerned about him and shows determination to save him when he was killed in Road to Hades. But his determination to thwart Cronus has led her to feel frustrated towards him. They share a passionate kiss in the finale.
  • Persephone: Theresa's mentor. Theresa has a close relationship with Persephone and often goes to the goddess when she is concerned about a vision she receives or when learning new powers and abilities.
  • Poseidon: Since learning the sea deity is her ancestor, they developed a familial bond almost instantly and often become concerned when the other may be in danger.
  • The Chosen Ones: Theresa has a strong friendship with the other chosen teens although she often does not like when one picks on another. However, she knows how valuable and strong her friends are and tries to encourage them as best she can.

Trivia[]

  • Theresa's birthday is either very late December or early January, based on the events of Chaos 101 and Chaos 102. Chaos 101 takes place on January 1st and January 2nd. When Theresa meets the group on January 3rd in Chaos 102, she tells the other heroes that she recently received a brand new car for her birthday. Jay wishes her happy birthday and she doesn't correct him, so it's possible her birthday is January 3rd, or she simply didn't correct him and it was slightly earlier/later if she didn't receive the car on the actual day of her birthday.
  • In Chaos 103, she implies that she doesn't find Neil attractive, which is reinforced in The Nature of Things when she seems disturbed when he puts an arm around her. In Forget Me Not after losing her memory, Atlanta remarks that Neil is kind of cute, but Theresa says she doesn't trust any male that dresses better than her.
  • Neil calls her "T" for short in The Nature of Things but this is never referenced again in the series.
  • She has strong feelings for Jay, and they share a passionate kiss in the finale.
  • Original designs of Theresa depicted her as a more youthful and playful character with a red and white shirt, in place of her standard scarlet red tank top.
  • Theresa is also a talented lyre player, something she is very reluctant to admit to others.
  • Like Atlanta, she also plays on Olympus High's field hockey team.
  • She is a black belt in taekwondo, a style of martial arts that is mainly a style of defense and is actually very strict about not attacking first unless needed.
