Summary[]
When a key part to a dangerous device is discovered, Jay thinks this will be the chance to finally catch Cronus, but the team must travel to one of the most famous lost cities ever known.
Plot[]
During a diving mission, divers locate a strange black cube with distinguished decorations.

Several months later, in Hephaestus' workshop, the deity of fire is helping Jay and Odie put together a new form of cage that they hope will be enough to catch Cronus. Satisfied with their work, Jay now needs to figure out what they can use as bait to lure Cronus in. Odie places a bucket of fried chicken in the center of the trap and Herry accidentally falls for the trap and is caught, his great strength not enough to break him free.
While Odie teases the trapped Herry, Jay informs the two that an astrolabe found by the diving team may be the perfect bait but feels that it might not be enough since the titan has not gone after it yet. After Jay frees Herry who now has Odie at his mercy, Hera mentions how the astrolabe was not the only thing lost to the sea but her crypted manner of speech only confuses Jay and causes him to dismiss her potential clue until he gets an idea.
Gathering the other heroes in the library, Jay lays out a plan to use the astrolabe as bait. Archie asks how certain Jay is about Cronus being interested in the item, but Jay gives a simple answer that he is sure Cronus will go after it. Going back to the workshop to get the trap ready, Hephaestus learns that the group plan to use the astrolabe as bait but reveals the one found by the divers is a fake he created by Hera's command in order to keep the real one safe under Hera's protection. He warns Jay that Cronus will be able to tell the one in the museum is a fake and will therefore not fall for the trap.
Knowing this, Jay heads to Hera's office and asks that the chosen teens be allowed to use the real astrolabe. Hera first tries to deny giving them the astrolabe by stating it would be too dangerous for everyone on the planet if Cronus got hold of it. Jay gives his word that the heroes will not fail, and Hera agrees to give him the real astrolabe.
At the museum, the seven teens are in various disguises as they keep a look out for Cronus. They soon spot the titan along with numerous copies of him walking about. Jay hears one tell a statue of Atlas how he will be removing the weight of the world from his shoulders and moves on. Using a painting from the wall, Cronus sets off the trap early by knocking the astrolabe from the pedestal. Odie informs the others of the trap going off and they hurry to the location. Having seen through the trap, Cronus mocks Jay's attempt to catch him. The young leader quickly engages in combat, but Cronus manages to get the astrolabe and create decoys of himself to confuse the teens and get away.
In order to get the astrolabe back and thinking Atlas may be of help since Cronus mentioned his name, Jay, Odie, and Theresa find the titan getting a needed massage and alignment from Pleione. The trio inform Atlas of Cronus' statement of lifting weight from his shoulders and that it may relate to the astrolabe.
Atlas gravely informs them that Cronus may have been talking literally when he explains that the astrolabe is actually a key to a machine known as The Antikythera Device which has the power to cause floods devastating enough to wipe out entire continents. He informs them that the machine is located in Atlantis and that they will need to get there before Cronus does. In the library, Odie is running a program to decipher the markings on the astrolabe that may be coordinates to where Atlantis is located. He is proven right when the program pinpoints Atlantis and Atlas confirms its location; information that he did not mention earlier because he was not asked. Having been informed of the situation, Hera makes it clear to Jay that Cronus now has the power to destroy them all, especially the gods. Determined to make up for what he feels is his mistake, Jay gathers everyone to get to Atlantis.
With the others having gotten a research submarine from a lab, they embark on their journey to the lost city. After some time has passed, several of the others begin to get impatient and ask if they have reached the city yet. Fortunately, they reach the city but are shocked to see Cronus has too. They watch as he uses the astrolabe to light a path that they guess leads to the Antikythera Device.
Jay questions if Odie can figure out where the Antikythera Device is based on the light trail so they can reach it first and delay Cronus from reaching it. Atlanta tries to get Archie to join her and Herry in going to stop the source of light but the warrior refuses. Remembering how Archie is frightened of water, she has Neil join instead.
As the team splits, Cronus cuts his finger and uses his blood to create a large and deadly eel. As he is distracted, he doesn't notice Neil and Herry trying to destroy the light source but are unable to. Meanwhile, the others run into the eel and are rather defenseless since the submarine doesn't have any weapons; Archie figuring this was the reason it was so easy for them to take. Seeing their friends in danger, Atlanta leads Neil and Herry in following after to help. Using the submarine's propellors to cut a column, Jay has it land on the eel long enough for them to get away. Finding the light lead to an entrance, Odie points out how the opening is too small for the submarine to fit which leads Jay and Theresa to swim out.
Unaware Cronus is close behind, Jay and Theresa exit the water into a flooded temple to Poseidon and see the Antikythera Device. As Jay tries to hold off Cronus, Theresa sets up explosives designed to destroy the machine. Cronus knocks both teens aside and removes the explosives to insert the astrolabe and activate the device.
As he attempts to leave, Atlanta, Herry, and Neil emerge from the water with the eel right behind them. Jay kicks Cronus into the water which prompts the eel to attack him. Running out of time, Jay removes the astrolabe and reinstalls the explosives. Although Theresa is hesitant to get in the water with the eel still close by, she and the others are given no choice as the building starts to collapse.
They return to submarine and get away just as the timer ends and destroys the machine. With no sign of the eel or Cronus, the team wonder if this is the last time they'll see the titan and begin their way back home.
Mythology[]
Quotes[]
Archie: (In a submarine) Where's the weapons on this thing?
Odie: There aren't any weapons. It's just a research vessel.
Archie: No wonder no one cared if we took it!
Atlanta: I'm all over it! Come on, guys, time for a swim. Let's turn that thing off.
Archie: (shakes head in protest)
Atlanta: Oh, right. The world's only non-swimming hero.
Trivia[]
- The gang was seen playing Monopoly.
- The scene at the Museum of History, Neil is disguised as Starsky from the 1970's American TV series Starsky and Hutch.
- It's impossible for a human being to go swimming in that kind of water pressure.
- The real Antikythera Device was probably a clockwork mechanism, while an astrolabe is an astronomical tool.
Goofs[]
- The red eel could not have been seen at that depth because red light doesn't have a strong enough frequency to go that far under the water.
- The Atlas that was from Atlantis was not the same Atlas that held up the sky. The latter was supposed to have been turned to stone by Perseus, at least in some versions of the myth. The Atlas that was from Atlantis was a son of Poseidon, and he was also mortal.
- The astrolabe is supposed to be an ancient Greek device, yet it's apparently usually on display in the ancient Egypt wing of the museum.
- When Jay is brushing dust off the machine, his glove disappears for a few seconds.
- This happens again when Cronus activates the machine and Jay saves Theresa from falling ruble, both teens are missing their gloves.
