Mother Knows Best

When Cronus steals the chest of the son of Prometheus, it's up to the team to find the key before Cronus does. After Atlanta falls into a pit, she meets up with Tantalus, and he puts a curse on her. This way Atlanta thinks she can take on Cronus herself with the armor of Athena called the aegis. But will the armor itself take over Atlanta

Summary[]

Cronus steals the Deucalion's chest from archaeologists. The heroes sense that there is some sort of danger. The chest is connected with Deucalion, who was spared during a great flood at the Age of Bronze. Fortunately, the key of the chest was kept away from it. Jay says that Deucalion was the son of Prometheus and figures out that the key must be probably hidden somewhere at the Temple of Prometheus. They finds the key but are attacked by a monster. Atlanta tries to distract but falls down a hole fighting it. She saw Cronus taking the key and by the time others approaches, he is gone. Frustrated, she tells her friends to go away. While alone in there, she meets Tantalus. He asks for her help, telling he cannot eat nor drink as his punishment from when he lived. When she refuses, he curses her, saying the things she desires she will take. Back at home, she takes the blame for the lose of the key. Jay tries to calm her down by saying that they started on the wrong foot but she is not convinced.

Later that night, while in the laundry room, Atlanta discovers Athena's room which contains her Aegis. The curse acts on her and she feels tempted to own the Aegis. After determined to defeat Cronus all by herself, she wears the Aegis which hurts Archie by giving him an electric shock. Atlanta then goes after Cronus at the top of a mountain and the others go after her. When they reached the peak, Cronus opened the box and it started raining. Odie and Jay were travelling in their aircraft and Jay figures put that the chest might contain the flood. Jay flies down to Atlanta while the others went after the chest. He deactivates the Aegis and gives Cronus electric shock that made him go down the waterfall. Atlanta grabs the key from him just in time and they closes the chest. She apologized to Athena for the damage she had made and wishes she could blame it all on the curse, but she too wanted to become the hero once and for all.

Mythology[]

King Tantalus was welcomed to Zeus' table in Olympus. For the dinner, Tantalus offered up his son, Pelops, as a sacrifice. He cut him up, boiled him, and served him up in a banquet for the gods. The Gods did not touch the offering. Clotho, one of the three Fates, was ordered by Zeus to bring the boy to life again. Tantalus also stole ambrosia and nectar and revealed the secrets of the gods. Tantalus's was punished and sent to Tartarus and was made to stand in a pool of water under a fruit tree, with the fruit ever eluding his grasp, and the water always receding before he could take a drink.

The Aegis was carried by Athena and Zeus, but its nature is uncertain. It had been interpreted as an animal skin or a shield, sometimes bearing the head of a Gorgon. The aegis of Athena is referred to in several places in the Iliad. It's believed Amalthea's skin, or that of her goat form, was taken by Zeus in honor of her when she died, became the protective Aegis.
