Cronus 2.0

When Cronus calls upon three dead Cyclope relatives, Brontes, Steropes, and Arges to create a Sceptre, a weapon more powerful than Zeus's lightning bolts to amplify his own power in exchange for whatever the cyclops wanted. Feeling betrayed for being executed for their blacksmithing services by The Gods, they agree so long as Cronus will place them amongst the gods where they feel they should belong. Polyphemus is found wandering around their ancient caves. Yes, that's right, Polyphemus lives, but is blinded and has to wear the Eye of the Storm in his eye socket to help his sight. When Polyphemus discovers Cronus' plan, he sends a message to Odie and the rest of the team but it captured by Cronus soon afterward.

Honor bound and loyal to one another, the cyclops were responsible for forging Zeus' ThunderBolt and Hades' Helmet of Darkness during The Titan War. Though they fulfill their end of the bargain, Cronus turns against them and forces them to fight the heroes by trapping Arges when he attempts to defend Polyphemus. After Cronus' scepter is destroyed, all three of them vanish.

Trivia[]

  • When Brontes denies any close kinship with Polyphemus and in fact looks down on him, he has justification: the three brothers and Polyphemus are of different Cyclops types, of which there were four kinds;
    • 1) The Solar Cyclops - the Uranians, whose single eyes stood for the suns;
    • 2) The Thunderbolt Cyclops, forgers of thunderbolts, to which Brontes and his brothers do belong;
    • 3) The Many-Armed Cyclops (Heirogasters), who built various ancient towns and forts, and who were destroyed by Dionysus when he warred with Mycenae; and
    • 4) The savage Cyclops of "Odyssey", to which Polyphemes belongs. The Cyclops of the fourth tribe are the least, farmers and goat-herders, and naturally that the greater-skilled Trio of Strontes and his brothers want nothing to do with the "savage" Polyphemus.
  • Brontes and his brothers are ghosts because they were killed by Apollo as his vengeance for the death of his son Asclepius (god and forefather of medicine); actually, it was Zeus who killed Asclepius, because he was bringing death for life, but since Apollo couldn't fight his father at the moment, he decided to kill the smiths of the thunderbolts instead. Thus, the Cyclops ghosts have justification for working with Chronus against the Olympians - Zeus and Apollo started it first.
