Appearance[]
When activated, the shield takes the form of circular energy capable of deflecting powerful attacks.
When not in use, it is a gold arm guard Jay wears around his left wrist.

Another perspective
Jay's Photonic Shield was made by Hephaestus and wielded by Jay. Appearing as an arm guard, it activates to create a shield of light energy that can deflect fire and energy blasts from Cronus. Using the shield caused a change in Jay's typical balance when he first obtained it, thus resulting in him temporarily missing his target whenever he tried to throw his sword.
In Cronus Vanquished, Jay gave Neil the shield in hopes of his natural luck being what they needed to defeat Cronus. This proved to be the right move as Neil was able to activate the shield in time to deflect Cronus' attack and render him unconscious.
