Mythology[]

The Hydra is a serpentine water monster, and offspring of Typhoeus. It had poisonous breath and blood so virulent that even its scent was deadly. The Hydra possessed many heads, the exact number is unknown. Its lair was the Lake of Lerna. Lerna was reputed to be an entrance to The Underworld. The monster is killed by Hercules as the second of his Twelve Labors.

Trivia[]

  • Three of Hercules's twelve labors are pictured on the walls of his room in New Olympia, including slaying the Nemean Lion and the Hydra, both of which Herry ends up doing himself. For unknown reasons, the third labor is of Hercules defeating a Stymphalian Bird (ironically encountered two episodes later) instead of Ladon or of obtaining a golden apple.
  • Cronus claims that Hercules required help to obtain a golden apple.[1] This implies that after Hercules took credit for Herry's success, Cronus was incorrectly led to believe that he had performed it with assistance, or that Hercules originally did perform all of the labors himself and that Cronus had altered the past from what it originally was. It is more likely that he was referring to the original legend in which Hercules needed the help of Atlas to get the apple since mortals were unable to get the apples.
  • When Herry picks one of the golden apples, he should not have been able to do this as the apples are stated to be capable of being picked only by the Gods. Demi-gods and mortals were incapable of picking the apples.

References[]

  1. Cronus: "Now it's time for Herry's next labor. One that even the mighty Hercules himself couldn't do alone."
