Hera is the Queen of the Gods, Goddess of marriage and womanhood. She is the wife of Zeus and a daughter of Cronus. Hera was known for her jealous and vengeful nature, most notably against Zeus's paramours and offspring, but also against mortals who crossed her.

Physical Appearance[]

Hera looks like an average older woman. She is of taller height than normal, wears her grey/white hair in a bun, two gold hoop earrings, a simple white dress, and sandals.

Like many other deities, she is able to change her physical appearance to just about anything she wishes, such as a giant or a phoenix.

Personality[]

Hera is usually very calm and level-headed. She likes to think ahead and make appropriate plans for the situation and not rush into things. As the queen of the gods, she holds an air of authority and is highly respected by those around her. She is also very helpful to the Chosen Ones and normally does what she can to help them but occasionally takes on a protective attitude and try to handle things herself, best seen in Sybaris Fountain.

Role in the Series[]

As the queen of the Olympians and wife of Zeus, Hera is the one who ordered the gathering of the teen heroes said to stop Cronus from taking over the world. She explained the situation to Jay, Atlanta, and Herry but was met with understandable skepticism from all three. Jay is particular was the most hesitant to accept his new destiny of being the leader of a group of descendants of legendary Greek heroes. While she understood his need for time to think things over, it would not be long until he came to accept his role and she became his mentor.

Throughout numerous situations, Hera contributes knowledge and helpful advice to the heroes about what they could be up against and how to potentially best handle things. On rare occasions, Hera will insert herself into the situation when she feels she must help the teens; best examples are in Road to Hades when she helped delay Jay's soul being taken to the Underworld and in Sybaris Fountain where she personally tried to stop Sybaris from hurting the teens.

Like other immortals, she did what she could to help stop Cronus from taking over the world and shaping things to the way he wishes.

Mythology[]

Hera was the wife and one of three sisters of Zeus in the Olympian pantheon of classical Greek Mythology. Her chief function was as the goddess of women and marriage. In Roman mythology, Juno was the equivalent mythical character. The cow, and later, the peacock were sacred to her. Hera's mother was Rhea and her father, Cronus.

As the Queen of the Gods Hera was the strongest and most respected Goddess on Olympus. As the Goddess of Marriage and womanhood, Hera has domain Marriage and therefore may determine the Prosperity of Marriage and is Protector of women: As a Goddess, Hera Possesses the standard of the Gods.

Aphrodite
Zeus hastily married Aphrodite to Hephaestus the god of blacksmiths and metalworking in order to prevent the other gods from fighting over her. Or possibly, Hephaestus gave his mother Hera a golden throne, but when she sat on it, she was trapped and he refused to let her go until she agreed to give him Aphrodite's hand in marriage. Hephaestus was overjoyed to be married to the goddess of beauty and forged her beautiful jewelry.

The fertility God Priapus was usually considered to be Aphrodite's son by Dionysus. Hera envied her and applied an evil potion to her belly while she was sleeping to ensure that the child would be hideous. When Aphrodite gave birth, the child had a massive, permanently erect penis, a potbelly, and a huge tongue. Aphrodite abandoned the infant to die in the wilderness, but a herdsman found him, later discovering Priapus could use his penis to aid in the growth of plants.

Paris
All The Gods were invited to the marriage of Peleus and Thetis (Achilles' Parents). Only Eris, goddess of discord, was not invited. Annoyed, she arrived with a golden apple inscribed with the words "for the fairest" and threw it among the goddesses. Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena all insisted they were the rightful owner of the apple.

The goddesses brought the matter before Zeus, who, not wanting to favor anyone, gave Paris, a Trojan prince the task. Paris could not decide between them, so they resorted to bribes. Hera offered power over all Asia and Europe, and Athena offered wisdom, fame and glory in battle, but Aphrodite promised Paris the beautiful woman on earth. Helen, who was already married to King Menelaus of Sparta. Paris selected Aphrodite and awarded her the apple.

The Trojan War
Aphrodite helps Hera seduce Zeus, thus distracting him from the combat while Poseidon aids the Greek forces on the beach.

Relationships[]

  • Jay: As her disciple, Hera is very close to the leader of the teen heroes, seeing him almost like a son. She is often available to help and protect him when needed, as seen when she purposely delayed the ritual for his soul to be taken to the Underworld. While she tries to keep him and the others safe, she sometimes tries to keep secrets which causes Jay to act out by forward with a plan. Regardless, she does trust him and deeply cares about his well-being.
