Dionysus is the God of wine and leisure.

Physical Appearance[]

Dionysus has an appearance of a classic "geek/nerd". His red/brown hair is slightly receding, he wears square shaped glasses, a white toga, and sandals. He is overweight.

Personality[]

Confirmed by Hera, Dionysus gave up his love of wine and channeled his new sense of energy and focus onto medicinal studies, chemistry, and science. He speaks in a high tone and slightly lisped speech often stereotyped with "brainy" people. Since devoting himself to his studies, he is quite intelligent and knowledgeable about many of the areas he studies. Despite setbacks, he firmly believes that even mistakes can be helpful as it allows someone to best learn from.

In the Series[]

He manages to develop a cure for the Seeper plague that was released from Pandora's Box by Archie. Dionysus believes that every mistake you make will result in you to become more knowledgeable. Odie is slightly doubtful about this but Dionysus is eventually proven right when, after many tries, he was able to find the proper cure.

Mythology[]

Dionysus was the son of Semele, princess of Thebes and granddaughter of Harmony, and Zeus, king of the gods. Hera, jealous of Zeus' affair, killed Semele with a thunderbolt after she gave birth to Dionysus. Hermes took the infant Dionysus and had him raised by his daughters, the Maenads. As Dionysus grew up, he learned how to make wine and taught it to mankind.

Hera found him and sent him into a madness. Rhea, mother of Hera and goddess of fertility, cured him and he wound up in Egypt. Then, Zeus blessed Dionysus with immortality and invited him to live on Mount Olympus. The goddess Hestia, tired of the gods' fights, gave up her seat to Dionysus.

He married the Cretan princess Ariadne, daughter of Minos and half-sister of the Minotaur. Dionysus had an affair with Aphrodite and she bore him a son Priapos, god of fruits and vegetables.

Mythology[]

Aura
Aura was a virgin huntress, just like Artemis and proud of her maidenhood. One day, she claimed that the body of Artemis was too womanly and she doubted her virginity. Artemis asked Nemesis for help to avenge her dignity and caused the rape of Aura by Dionysus. Aura became a mad and dangerous killer. When she bore twin sons, she ate one of them while the other one, Iacchus, was saved by Artemis. Iacchus later became an attendant of Demeter and the leader of Eleusinian Mysteries.

Trivia[]

  • The Romans called him both Bacchus and Liber.
