Summary[]

The God of Time, Cronus, escapes from Tartarus on New Year's and learns of a prophecy stating he will be defeated by seven teenagers.

Plot[]

At a New Year's party at his home, teenage Jay is in his back yard with a telescope to observe the alignment of the planets when his mother urges him to go inside as midnight is approaching. Unfortunately, his mother is not as thrilled about the moment as he is and tells him to get his mind back down to Earth.

Meanwhile, in a prison located beneath the Earth's surface, a guard informs the titan Cronus that it's time for lights out. However, Cronus mocks the guard on the topic of time and promptly knocks him unconscious.

On Earth, midnight has arrived, and everyone celebrates the new year, but Jay notices the seconds hand on the clock move backwards. At the same time, Cronus regains control of his powers and breaks free from his cell and leaves Tartarus prison. He travels to the city with a small group of his henchmen and locates The Oracle disguised as a newspaper stand owner.

Although reluctant to do so, the Oracle informs Cronus of a prophecy in which he will be defeated by seven heroic teenagers. Cronus is in disbelief of hearing mortal teenagers are foretold to be his downfall. Hearing that the seven heroes will have guidance and protection from the God's, Cronus becomes determined to stop them before they have the chance to defeat him.

Later, while teaching a sailing class, Jay is suddenly attacked by one of Cronus' minions when he is rescued by Hermes and a flock of griffins. In a forest in Canada, Atlanta is guiding a hunting group of new hunters when another henchman arrives. Atlanta quickly tries to get away and finds herself running faster than normal. As she holds her own against the giant being, Jay swoops in and saves her. The next teen targeted is Herry. After he uses his immense strength to take down the two giants sent to catch him, he too is whisked away by a griffin.

Hermes leads the group to New Olympia High School where the teens begin to explore the campus as a janitor appears to lead them in a certain direction inside the building. They are eventually led to the janitor's closet where Jay notices the lock matches a pendant the three reveal to possess after having found one several days earlier. Jay uses his pendant to unlock the door. Although the room appears to be a regular janitor supply closet, Atlanta turns on the light that activates a mystical gateway. They are guided through the portal by the goddess Hera. While the trio is curious about the situation, Hera asks they hold their questions until another four teenagers arrive.

At a mountain location, Cronus opens a prison holding a large creature inside and makes a deal with it.

At the high school, Hera introduces the teens to Artemis and Hercules. Jay asks why the gods of ancient Greece are located inside a school. Hera answers that it's safer for them and also keeps them closer to the teens so they can protect them from Cronus. She explains that Cronus had recently used the alignment of the planets to break out of prison and that the teens are the only ones who can stop him from trying to take over the world and bringing about great destruction to all of mankind. Hera then surprises them by revealing they are descendants of Jason, Atalanta, and Hercules, and it is their fates to become great heroes.

The teens are taken to an indoor gymnasium to test out their skills. Herry and Atlanta effortlessly demonstrate their strength and speed when Hera appoints Jay as the leader tasked with leading the seven heroes to ensure the safety of the world. Realizing that the three have had a full day, Hera informs them that they will be shown to their new home and that Hermes is taking care of providing cover stories to their parents so they will not be worried about the missing youth's.

While making their way to their new home, Jay expresses how he is not a leader and does not have special abilities like Herry and Atlanta. Although the two try to convince him otherwise, Jay decides to be alone for a while to think things over. Inside the house, Herry and Atlanta are treated to a big breakfast by Athena but are questioned as to where Jay wandered off to.

In the city, Jay is walking around when a commotion catches his attention, and he spots a giant running around causing chaos to the citizens. Jay is able to save an elderly woman and use a downed powerline to scare the giant away. The wounded giant runs to Cronus and informs him of his encounter with Jay. Cronus notices Jay hiding around a corner, but the teen hurries off back to the school. Although Hera is happy he has returned, Jay informs her that he cannot accept his fate of being a hero.

Their conversation is halted when Chiron and Hermes appear with the news that the Typhus was freed by Cronus. Jay makes his way to the foyer where he's found and followed by Atlanta and Herry. He tells them how he had found Cronus but ran off because he was too scared to face him and feels that it's not possible for them to defeat someone of such power. Herry states that he feels this new part of their lives feels right and that he cannot allow Cronus to rule the planet.

Jay finally agrees and accepts the task before them. He leads Herry and Atlanta to the port to see if Cronus has the Typhus with him. Assuring the two that they will only be scouting, the trio board a ship and locate the cage where the Typhus is being kept. At this point, Cronus appears and mocks the teens about possibly stopping him when he notices that there are only three of them present. Although the trio feel confident about taking Cronus on, he is able to turn things to his advantage by bringing out his four henchmen.

Although Jay, Herry, and Atlanta are able to fend the giants off for a short while, they soon become overwhelmed until Jay orders Herry to unleash the Typhus. After Herry defeats the last two giants, he begins opening the hatches as Jay keeps Cronus busy. When the Typhus is freed, the teens quickly realize they won't be able to defeat it alone and escape from the burning ship.

Characters[]

Debut[]

Errors[]

  • When Jay, Atlanta, and Herry first see the portal Jay is standing in the center with Atlanta on his right and Herry on his left. But when they walk through, Atlanta is in the center, Jay is on her left, and Herry is on her right.

Trivia[]

  • Hermes also mentions in Chaos 101 that they're flying to pick up Atlanta in Canada.
  • Jay's mother is Greek and has taught him all about Greek mythology.
  • If Herry is a descendant of Hercules, then technically he is also the descendant of Zeus. The same is with Odie, as a descendant of Odysseus, he is also a descendant of Hermes.
    • This would also extend to Jay since his ancestor Jason was the grandson of Hermes.
  • When Hermes first rescues Herry and introduces himself, watch his caduceus. The copulating snakes that are traditionally wrapped around the staff appear and disappear briefly.
