Archie ("The Warrior") is the descendant of Achilles. He was the fourth teen brought to Olympus High and is mentored by Ares.

Appearance[]

Archie stands just under six feet in height. He usually wears a baggy, light blue hoodie sweater with matching shorts. He shoes are simple sandals and a golden heel brace on his right ankle. His hair is a short length with two spikes standing near his forehead with the hair between the part being a lighter color. Though he is seen with purple hair, it is implied that his natural hair color is orange but there is no confirmation to date.

Personality[]

He tends to be brash, macho, somewhat insensitive, and has a slight tendency to show off, but also tends to keep to himself and is rather cynical. His skepticism extends towards the supernatural, resulting in his initial hostility toward Theresa, brushing off her abilities as predictions and blatantly ignoring her, though they eventually iron out their differences.

Archie has an irrational fear of water and often refuses to swim or go near a body of water larger than a bathtub, something hinted at being passed down from Achilles, although Atlanta eventually helps him get past this fear. Achilles had defeated Scamander the River God and ever since then, Scamander has wanted revenge. Archie's innate fear of water was to keep him away from Scamander and away from "the waters that (he) commands".[1]

Some of Archie's less favorable traits is that he tends to be rather aggressive when in a leadership position, tending to charge forward with little regard or care to any potential traps; in Eye for an Eye Theresa tried to warn him of a trap, but Archie ignored her and was willing to risk their safety in order to save Odie and Jay. In the same episode, he also attempted a cheap shot of trying to hit Polyphemus with a fake lightning bolt when his back was turned.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Invulnerability: Dionysus says that Archie is invincible to disease like Achilles was, and Archie himself states that he has never been sick a day in his life.[2] He is also resistant to physical harm like Achilles, but at least has a scar on his left thigh from "rubbing a timber wolf's belly".
  • Superhuman Agility: Archie is super agile, almost as fast as Atlanta.
  • Greek Lore: Archie is knowledgeable about Greek mythology from reading a lot of Greek poetry.

Equipment[]

  • Leg Brace: Though Achilles did not wear armor over his weak heel, Archie wears a distinctive gold brace covering mid-calf to under his foot on his right leg, as he has a "wonky heel". He is rarely seen without the brace and is shown to not be able to use his leg due to immense pain when he does not wear it.
  • Hephaestus Whip: A combination chain whip and rope dart made from "the thinnest metal ever formed" and cuts through nearly anything, according to Ares. Hephaestus eventually upgraded it to an "Adamantine Whip", with the ability to hold Gods. He is very skilled when using it in battle and is clever for using it in other ways, such as a tight wire for the group to cross a small ravine.

Biography[]

Season One[]

Archie is initially skeptical about being recruited as a hero and believing the tales of Ancient Greek are real, and tries to sneak out of Olympus High. Later the girls caught him outside the Brownstone, he told them that he was just patrolling in case of prowlers.

Chaos 102: This is the first episode Archie is introduced. He is initially skeptical about being recruited as a hero and tries to sneak out of Olympus High. Later the girls caught him, he told them that he was just patrolling in case of prowlers. Although hesitant about joining the team, he does end up helping the gang defeat the Typhoeus with his own idea of using the power plants electrical cable. Here we learn about his "wonky" heel, that he reads a lot of classical poetry (Its why he's very knowledgeable about Greek history), and where he gets the Hephaestus whip.

Chaos 103: By the third episode, he has come around to his new lifestyle and the responsibilities placed upon him and the other teens.

The Nature of Things: This episode is heavily impacted on the love triangle between Archie, Atlanta and Phil. Here we find out Archie's true feelings for Atlanta. Even though its more about Atlanta, there are a lot of undertones of Archie trying to ask Atlanta out... he gets shut down every time. But it's his mistrust in Phil that the gang are able to save the day. We also learn that he hasn't danced since he was 5, and that he doesn't like hippies.

Antikythera Device: Though we don't see much of Archie in this episode, it does let us know about Archie's fear of the water. which will play a big part in the future.

See You at the Crossroads: Archie falls out of the sky and Herry catches him but right when Herry catches him Archie's right leg hits the ground hard and his ankle brace shatters. When they stop Archie starts rubbing his ankle. Herry and Jay help him up. Jay asks Neil to take care of him but Archie protests. So, Jay takes care of him instead because Archie said he was going through enough pain at the moment so he didn't want to deal with Neil's attitude.

Season Two[]

Eris spreads discord among both the heroes and The Gods. Causing Archie and Atlanta to get into a fight at the movies, and again the next day. It soon spread to the rest of the team and The Gods.

Harmonia has Odie call on the other heroes, speaking to them and calming them with her voice. A message which is relayed to the squabbling Gods and Humans. With Eris neutralized and everyone back to themselves, Harmony returns to the school and holds an anger management class to offer closure to those who were fighting; only to find that her efforts are unsuccessful for Atlanta and Archie.

Archie's fear of water comes from when Achilles had defeated Scamander the River God and ever since then, Scamander has wanted revenge. Archie's innate fear of water was to keep him away from Scamander and away from "the waters that (he) commands".

Relationships[]

  • Atlanta: Archie has also been attracted to Atlanta since they first met, but unfortunately, he does not have the courage to confess his feelings, though he did kiss her on the cheek once in Little Box of Horrors while she was unconscious after being infected by the Seeper. Atlanta, for her part, is apparently oblivious to Archie's affections and instead, the two of them are always competing to best the other. When he openly tells her of his feelings in "The Deep End", she is initially wary of such a change in their relationship, but later tells him she likes him as well. He has an irrational fear of water and refuses to swim, although Atlanta eventually helps him get past this fear.
  • The Chosen Ones: Archie is on friendly terms with the rest of the teen heroes. He often follows Jay's leadership without question and usually is on friendly terms with Herry. While he is still good friends with the others, Archie often mocks or criticizes their behavior or actions, most notably Neil and Odie, both of whom he initially had doubts about joining the group as he didn't see them as warriors.[3][4] Archie is often seen mocking the two based on their specific powers and lack of battle skills compared to the others rather harshly, yet he will genuinely apologize when they prove their worth. While he is generally respectful to Theresa, she is usually one of the teens Archie often clashes with as she tends to point out his behavior on occasion and he in turn does not always agree with her leadership abilities.
  • Achilles: While it's rare for them to be seen interacting, Archie quite possibly holds Achilles in high regard as he is very familiar with his legacy and in Road to Hades he did not want to talk to Achilles about his fear of water out of fear for thinking his ancestor would not think him brave.
  • Hope: The spirit of good faith. Although they knew each other for a short amount of time, Archie and Hope developed an almost sibling-like relationship after he accidentally freed her from Pandora's Box. Through Hope, Archie was able to better learn to have confidence in himself and others and that he shouldn't be so quick to give-up when something seems impossible.

Trivia[]

  • Archie says he wouldn't take orders from Atlanta because she's a Junior in high school.[5] This implies he is a Senior, one grade above her, which would make him 17 or 18 years old.
  • Archie's hair may be dyed purple. As the rest of The Chosen Ones strongly resemble their ancestors, his natural hair color is presumed to be light orange like Achilles's.[6][7] However, when Cronus accelerated his age with the Time Piece of Zeus, his newly grown facial hair was purple and all his hair transitioned directly to gray as he aged.[8]
    • It is also possible that he inherited his hair color from either of his parents or a more recent ancestor. A hint this may be possible is shown with Jay having a different hair color from his mother who is Greek and shares the same hair style as himself and Jason.
  • Archie is the first hero to directly hurt Cronus, by cutting his face with his whip.[4]
  • He has an irrational fear of water and refuses to swim, although he was willing to swim to save Atlanta[9] and she eventually helps him get past this fear.[1]
    • His fear of water may be a reference to how the river god Scamander was said to have attempted to drown Achilles three times during The Trojan War.
    • It is also hinted that this fear of water was passed down Achilles bloodline to keep his descendants away from Scamander.
    • Ironically, Achilles was made invulnerable by being entirely submerged in the river Styx.
    • At different points in the series, he states that he isn't afraid of water itself but rather drowning.
