The device is of such power that both Gods and Titans are cautious of. It is described by Atlas as being so powerful that it could sink entire continents.
While the main part of the machine is in Atlantis, the key to start it is protected by Hera and Hephaestus had created a fake duplicate to fool anyone who may want to use it for their own purpose.
Knowing Cronus would want the real key for the machine, Jay convinced Hera to let him use the real key to the Antikythera Device in an attempt to trap Cronus. Unfortunately, Cronus somehow sensed the trap and fooled the heroes long enough to grab the key and leave. Knowing that Cronus will head to Atlantis, the heroes figure out where the sunken city is and head there in a research submarine. Cronus was able to beat them there and use the key to lead him to the Antikythera Device. Jay and Theresa manage to get there before Cronus and, after a small fight, are able to destroy the device completely and leave the remains buried under rubble and the sea.
